Cycle Facilities Infrastructure Audit   Now completed, being analysed

National Bike Week 14 – 22 June 2003 Arrangements more or less complete, but more participants needed generally, and especially for the promotional ride Reigate-Redhill on the opening Saturday

Feedback from Steering Group 8 May

Redstone Hill cycle network, still under consideration

Priory Park Consultation  KH & RD reported on recent meeting: some concern about gradients and pedestrian safety, but generally positive response

Cycle Monitoring

Alan Fordham reported on cycle monitoring, the need to estabish statistics of cycling and cyclists, in order to produce a strategy and programme for cycling in the future. Redhill/Reigate one of 3 areas of Surrey selected for study. Need to identify 12 sites for 4 automatic counters, each over 3-month period. Aim: to measure speeds and count users. Due to start in September. Precise locations needed.

Surrey Cycle Maps

Being devised, on same lines as London Cycle Guide. Need more research to fill in knowledge gaps. Timescale to launch complete set of maps in April 2004.

BOAT 401

The current situation was reported, with the public enquiry due to be held on 5 August. Members urged to attend to support our case.

Rick reported on an incident on 5 June, reported to the authorities.

Proposed Road Crossing – Bell St/Lesbourne Rd

Traffic light idea had been rejected, leaving choice between puffin and toucan crossing. Agreed to support toucan crossing as being more cycle-friendly, since the site is on the community cycle route.

Any Other Business

Mark Strong, ex-Sustrans, sent questionnaire re performance of Highway Authority, including requests for details of schemes being pursued etc. Response to be co-ordinated

The Government campaign re cycle helmets was discussed, and agreed as being too frightening, inaccurate and possibly damaging to cycling promotion. Agreed no response to be submitted from Forum

LA 21 invitation to a meeting in Guildford on 21 June, as there was now no LA 21 group locally

August Social

In place of the Forum meeting on August 7, there will be social consisted of a short ride and ending with a BBQ at 39 Comon Road, Earlswood.  More details to follow.
